Jon Hansen of Global School Operations (GSO) first worked with the American School of Milan in 2022, when we engaged him to conduct a comprehensive review of our Admissions processes and Enrollment Management workflows.
From the outset, Jon distinguished himself through the depth of his inquiry, the quality of his systems thinking, and his fluency across admissions, finance, technology, and operational practice. His interviews were thorough, thoughtful, and genuinely curious, and his feedback demonstrated a rare ability to connect customer experience, internal workflows, and financial sustainability into a coherent whole.
The Admissions report Jon delivered was exceptionally detailed and practical, surfacing more than 60 actionable recommendations that strengthened workflows, improved the family experience, and clarified internal roles and decision points. Just as importantly, Jon remained actively engaged beyond the delivery of the report—providing ongoing coaching, follow-up support, and serving as a trusted sounding board as we implemented changes and refined practice over time.
Because of the confidence he earned through this work, and the trust he built with our leadership team, we re-engaged Jon in 2025 to conduct a full Financial Operations audit. This work went far beyond surface-level financial review. Jon examined our systems, practices, and organisational structures in detail, producing a rigorous and objective assessment that clearly articulated both strengths and risks. His recommendations have given us a much stronger understanding of our financial health, clarified priorities for improvement, and provided a disciplined roadmap for strengthening sustainability in the context of today’s enrollment and market realities.
Following this, we again invited Jon to return to ASM to conduct a Facilities and School Services audit. This work has been particularly important as we look ahead to the next phase of campus development and long-term planning. Jon’s analysis is helping us align facilities strategy with financial realities and operational capacity, and it is directly informing the groundwork for our future Master Facilities Plan. The clarity and structure he brings to complex, interdependent systems has been invaluable.
Most recently, Jon is now working with us on the comprehensive rebuild of our schoolwide operational policies and procedures - work that will ultimately also support a clearer and healthier balance between Board-level governance and operational execution.
Across all of these engagements, Jon has demonstrated an exceptional ability to see the school as a whole system, to work productively with trustees and leadership, and to provide guidance that is both strategically grounded and operationally usable.
Jon is a generous, steady, and deeply invested partner. His high EQ, extensive international school experience, and credibility across multiple operational domains make him someone I trust and rely on.
